NECC (Shanghai), China
CBME Shanghai is a firm date in the BPA’s diary for 2017 from 19th to 21st July 2017 - and if the rave reviews of participants in 2016 are anything to go by, the UK Pavilion will be bigger with considerably more BPA members seeking to get involved.
2017 will be the 17th Shanghai Children-Baby-Maternity Products Expo (CBME 2017) and is the world’s largest business-to-business sourcing event for baby, child and maternity products. The exhibition boasts 223,305 m² with more than 3,000 brands from 2,250 exhibiting companies and includes international pavilions from Australia, Italy, Korea, New Zealand, Spain, Taiwan and the United States.

Exhibitor Feedback 2016
Anthony Butters, BabyStyle UK Ltd
We had a good show and, although we didn’t make a lot of new customers, we did potentially make a few and the opportunity to use the show to generate further business from existing customers was very valuable. Often our existing customers will not place orders at the show but after having had the opportunity to get ‘hands on’ with our latest products, the orders come later.
Fiona Gowing, Bitzbags Ltd
I was delighted to have been given the opportunity to exhibit at CBME China with the support of BPA and UKTI. Our exhibition experience was that it was extremely hard work however, showcasing our product was extremely beneficial, we had a lot of interest due to the uniqueness of the Bitzbags product and our UK brand (designed in Scotland). We made at least 9 sales leads (from the overall 70 leads) from large scale trade buyers with the thanks to the UKTI, securing our largest order to date.
Marc Kelly, Cuddleco Ltd
The show was excellent but it was exceedingly hard to verify who you were talking too, country knowledge is very difficult as well as visibility of the retailer or E-tailer or distributor or in fact whether they were a factory or not!
Harry Jhamat , Euro Stock Traders Limited
Highly recommended commercial platform and an excellent way to penetrate/open foreign market.
Melissa Walsh, Melobaby Ltd
The show is essential to attend if you sell in China. The UKTI staff on hand were extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the Chinese market. The UK Pavilion is essential at the CBME Show and could use more funding to be represent the quality brands that come out of the UK market.
Peter Seagrim, First Hand Learning Ltd
Our exhibiting experience was very positive, we made lots of useful contacts, received a lot of feedback that is tailored to Asian market and will help future product development for this market and most importantly we have developed relationships and generated leads for distributors and retailers in Asian counties which will help to establish our products in the Asian market.
Paul Baines, My Buggy Buddy
A Great show. We would not have attended without the support from the BPA organising the UK Pavilion and the TAP grant organised by the UKTI. Having the UKTI team on hand at the show was also invaluable offering help and advice as well as making use of their language skills. And the ongoing support from the UKTI is allowing focused support in working to turn leads into business.
Daniel Lucas, We Made Me Ltd
The UK Pavilion provided the perfect platform to enter new markets.
Richard Trott, Weybury Hildreth Ltd
The UKTI offices in Shanghai, Guangzhou and ChongChing were fantastic in arranging presentation about the China baby products market, a store visit, meeting with potential buyers at the CBME and generally sharing information from their knowledge of the market. The fair had 84,000 visitors over 3 days and was a very valuable experience for us.
Big business in China
Participants in the UK Pavilion at CBME Shanghai in July 2015 returned to the UK with packed order books and enough new business to keep their sales teams busy for months.
This year was another record-breaking event with 2,147 exhibitors (22.6% more than last year) and 81,518 unique trade buyers. The UK Pavilion experienced an unrivalled level of business with stands packed with visitors for the entire duration of the show.
Dr Jim Shaikh of Yoomi, who attended the event for the second year, comments: “The show was a great success for us as we were very busy on all three days. We were able to have detailed discussions with existing partners and also develop a significant number of new leads for the Chinese market. We also met with approximately 20 potential new partners from the surrounding Asian territories and expect to convert, at the very least, two of these contacts to orders.”
Lee-anne Simpson of Purflo, joined the UK Pavilion for the first time and said: “We found being a part of the UK Pavilion very beneficial. We now have a busy few months of following up all the commercial contacts that we made for both China and other countries in Asia and developing these partnerships.”
Tammy Maxwell of Sock Ons said: “Sock Ons range was very well received at CBME and it was great to be under the UK Pavilion umbrella as everyone was on the lookout for ‘foreign’ products. We are already talking to a number of distributors who are very keen to start a relationship with us.”
Josu Shephard of Jakabel added: “The Shanghai show was vibrant and busy with lots of potential business. The BPA does a brilliant job of organising the UK Pavilion and supporting participants throughout.”
All of the companies participating in the UK Pavilion in Shanghai received UK Trade & Investment funding to help them launch into the Chinese market. The group also benefited from enhanced activity funding which allowed the UK Pavilion to really stand out from the crowd with its eye-catching British branding.
Robert Anslow, BPA managing director, comments: “The BPA is working closely with the UKTI to encourage British companies to export into high growth markets such as China. This is the second year that we have staged a UK Pavilion at CBME Shanghai and once again the results for all involved were outstanding. We hope that next year more British companies will be encouraged to take advantage of this support and join us at the show.”
China is one of the fastest growing world economies and demand for British branded goods is increasing year-on-year, making it the perfect emerging market for UK nursery companies wishing to export. The BPA is staging a UK Pavilion at the show in July 2017 for the fourth year running.
It is imperative that companies wishing to sell to China register their brand in China and protect their intellectual property rights. Please download this IMPORTANT INFORMATION SHEET provided by The China Britain Business Council.
